The rumors are indeed true.
As was previously reported, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will travel to Paris, France's Théâtre du Châtelet to present To Cross the Face of the Moon/Cruzar la Cara de la Luna. The announcement was made official last late night in a prepared statement by HGO.
The mariachi opera will be the 2011-2012 season opener for the company, who will perform Face of the Moon from September 23 through September 27 of this year. Mezzo-soprano Cecilia Duarte will star as Renata while baritone Octavio Moreno will be cast as Laurentino.
The mariachi opera has been documented as the first of its kind. When it debuted here in Houston on November 13, our stage critic felt like it was modeled a mariachi concert rather than an opera production.
