ยThe big international show at FotoFestย may sound a tad redundant ย the organization always shows world-class photographers. But FotoFest takes it up a notch with ยInternational Discoveries,ย opening today, an exhibit pulled from the port-folios of nine of the worldยs finest photographers. Argentinean Alessandra Sanguinetti has several entries from her series ยFrom the Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of Their Dreams,ย a collection of slightly unsettling images of two preteen girls in intimate moments together. Roberto Fernรกndez Ibรกรฑez represents Uruguay with his shadow-rich work showing skies, forests, rocks, tents and people. Przemysaw Pokrycki plugs Poland with his depictions of working-class citizens of Warsaw, a city in transition from the grit and grind the Soviets implemented to global modernity. For the home team, thereยs Kelly Flynn, who paints her body up and portrays typically masculine figures like cowboys, bodybuilders and the president of the United States. With five other artists from as far away as Mexico and South Korea, itยll be a veritable Worldยs Fair at todayยs opening reception at 6 p.m. Exhibit runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
