Luck of the Draw

Art appreciation is supposed to be a dignified thing, but it’s pure chaos at Luck of the Draw X: Revolution, DiverseWorks’ annual fund-raising party, which features two types of art auction, neither of which is traditional. In the chance version, a number is called, and if it’s yours, you have 15 seconds to dash to the collection of around 200 works, all of which are roughly the size of a sheet of notebook pa-per, and choose the one. In the blind auction – which features higher-profile artists – you write down your bid, slip it in a box, and hope that the highest is yours. Depending on how generously you want to support DiverseWorks – proceeds help the group stage performances, hold events, and generally show Houston a good time – you can donate more to get preference in the auction order. But broke art-lovers needn’t worry; for $25 you can watch from the sidelines, have a bite and a drink, and wait for an art rumble to break out. 7:30 p.m. 1117 East Freeway. For information, call 713‑223‑8346 or visit www.diverseworks.org. $25 to $500.
