Mat Johnson

Mat Johnson admits readings aren’t easy for graphic novelists…especially at a park. “We’re trying to see how to do a PowerPoint presentation outside,” says Johnson. The UH Creative Writing Program faculty member will read from his graphic novel Incognegro today at Discovery Green. He says if worse comes to worst, he’ll hand out photocopies. Personally, we kind of like the idea of sitting around him kindergarten-style, following along as he turns the pages. Incognegro tells the story of Zane Pinchback, a black journalist in the 1930s South who goes undercover to investigate who is responsible for the murder his brother has been accused of committing. Get a good spot on the circle by 7 p.m. Discovery Green’s Saberioon Plaza, 1002 Avenida de las Americas. For information, call 713-521-2026 or visit www.inprinthouston.org. Free.
