Memories of Spain

When you think Spain and dance, you naturally think flamenco. At today's repertory concert Memories of Spain, Dancepatheatre will offer small doses of the sensual dance, along with much more. The program includes artistic director Sara Draper's well-known work El Cerrojo (The Door Latch), set to poetry based on the Song of Songs. Mezzo-soprano Shannon Langman will move with company dancers as she sings along to selections of Tonadillas by Spanish composer Enrique Granados. A number of historical figures, including Eleanor of Aquitaine and Fatima of Cordoba, will appear in Scenes from Al Andalus, a series of solos and duets highlighting the cultural richness of historical Andalucia. And if you're jonesing for flamenco, don't worry guest guitarist Valdemar Phoenix will give everyone a fix. 8 p.m. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby. For information, call 713-522-6000 or visit $21 to $60.
