Gouache on paper ย— thatย’s what little girls are made of in the latest works by Mindy Kober. Baby Police is a simple beige-and-maroon painting of two little ladies at play. One is dressed up in a police dress and directing another whoย’s pushing a baby carriage. In Destructive Tendencies, a little blond girl faces two trees ย— one black and scary, complete with owl, and another blossoming as if itย’s spring. Other works feature men and women swimming; the drawings almost resemble clip art, with people in various diving or swim-stroke positions. Koberย’s works have a hip, mid-century modern vibe with stark blank backgrounds that allow objects ย— in this case, little girls ย— to stand out with clean lines. In other words, itย’s gouache that isnย’t gauche. The show opens today with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Regular viewing hours are noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
