Gouache on paper ย thatยs what little girls are made of in the latest works by Mindy Kober. Baby Police is a simple beige-and-maroon painting of two little ladies at play. One is dressed up in a police dress and directing another whoยs pushing a baby carriage. In Destructive Tendencies, a little blond girl faces two trees ย one black and scary, complete with owl, and another blossoming as if itยs spring. Other works feature men and women swimming; the drawings almost resemble clip art, with people in various diving or swim-stroke positions. Koberยs works have a hip, mid-century modern vibe with stark blank backgrounds that allow objects ย in this case, little girls ย to stand out with clean lines. In other words, itยs gouache that isnยt gauche. The show opens today with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Regular viewing hours are noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
