The latest Music Box Musicals production,
Next to Normal, isn’t your usual highkicking musical — it deals with a family coping with the mental problems of one of its members. That’s not usually something that makes characters break out into song. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning show, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and poprock score by Tom Kitts, has plenty of humor as well to accompany its raw emotional power. Director Luke Wrobel promises that “the intimacy of the theater allows the story to come alive in a truly visceral way.”
8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays,2 p.m. August 24. Through August 30. The Music Box Theater, 2623 Colquitt. For information, call 713‐522‐7722 or visit
