In 2007, the artists of the Mariinsky Ballet mounted a spectacular production of one of the most well-known holiday stories of the last century, The Nutcracker. Choreographed by Kirill Simonov, with sets and costumes by avant-garde Russian artist Mikhail Shemyakin, the production featured Irina Golub as Masha (the Clara character) and Leonid Sarafanov as the Prince, each of whom earned accolades and rave reviews.
