Philip Kerr: Field Gray

In the thriller Field Gray, Bernie Gunther, the protagonist of a series of books by British author Philip Kerr, is in a precarious situation. He left the spy game in Cuba, bought a boat and made it to Florida. But authorities there sent him right back to Cuba, where he landed in a prison cell. A French intelligence officer questioned him around the clock before sending him to another prison cell, this time in Berlin. Now Gunther’s being offered a deal: work for the French or hang. His first assignment is to hunt down a French war criminal who’s been posing as a German officer. What the French want to do with him, Gunther doesn’t want to know, but it’s bound to be bloody. For everyone, Gunther included. 6:30 p.m. Murder by the Book, 2342 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-524-8597 or visit www.murderbooks.com. Free.
