Before she wrote her first supernatural novel for young adults, author Rachel Caine wasn’t sure she’d be successful in that field. Her work for adults, including the Weather Warden and Outcast Season series, was popular, but teens and young adults? That was a whole different ballgame. Legions of fans are happy she took the chance. Caine will sign copies of Kiss of Death, the eighth book in the Morganville Vampires series, after a reading and discussion session. For those unfamiliar with Caine’s YA novels, Morganville is a town run by vampires where humans pay taxes in blood and are owned (like really big – and edible -pets). In Death, Michael, who is both a vampire and a musician, gets offered an out-of-town gig. Taking a few of his human friends and a vampire protector along, he hits the road. Once they get to the outside world, the group find themselves caught between humans who hate them and a troupe of blood-hungry vampires intent on finding their next meal, and who wouldn’t mind if Michael and his friends were on the menu. 6:30 p.m. Murder by the Book, 2342 Bissonnet.
