The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra and Houston Chamber Choir have joined forces to present the world premiere of Messiah for Kids! Children can enjoy a special version of Handel’s classic, created just for them by composer and Shepherd School of Music faculty member Karim Al-Zand.
As if in a football pre-game show, actor Rutherford “Ruddy” Cravens comes out on stage as Handel and details his team (the orchestra and choir), as well as providing a play-by-play analysis of the music. With lots of audience participation and musical demonstrations, Handel’s masterpiece becomes something even very young children can understand and appreciate. 11 a.m. The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard. For information, call 713-665-2700 or visit www.rocohouston.org. Free to $15.
