Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold

It’s become a tradition for Stages Repertory Theatre audiences, Sister’s annual holiday visit and catechism/comedy. This year it’s Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold. Denise Fennell reprises her role as the ruler-whacking, no-nonsense Sister. She’s on the search for the Magi’s gold given to Christ in Bethlehem. The gold’s been missing for the past 2,000-plus years, and Sister is determined to find it. (She’s not above playing CSI at the manger.) Along the way, she gives her class (the audience) a few lessons about the real meaning of popular Christmas carols (it’s not good) and the origin of nativity sets and other seasonal traditions. If you know your catechism and can help Sister recover the Magi’s gold, you might get a nice glow-in-the-dark rosary; if you don’t, watch out for that ruler. The over-the-top stage comedy is written by Maripat Donovan with Jane Morris and Marc Silva.
