Big winners at the 31st Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition on Galveston’s East Beach included a triple-win by Kirksey + Metzger for Smurf and Turf which took home the Golden Bucket 1st place win, the tallest standing structure and best traditional castle; plus a double-win by Gensler + Harvey for Return of the Crawfish! which netted the Silver Shovel 2nd place win and most Houston-Centric category.
The not-too-shabby Bronze Shovel 3rd place win went to Ziegler Cooper Architects for Quest for the Holy Pail. The annual competition is a fund-raising event for AIA Houston and ArCH Foundation and serves as one of the top five revenue generating events for the City of Galveston.
