"SPIN 6:" Spin on Summer

The Houston Center for Photography has capped off every summer in recent years with an annual exhibit and Spin party. The center asks for pictures with a certain premise, exhibits them for a few weeks and then teams up with another city organization for a shindig to close the show. Past themes have included phone camera pics and images that looked like they were from the '80s but weren't. This year it's "SPIN 6," featuring photos indicative of summer, such as images of sun, beaches and people lounging around. Among these are multiple works by Trudi Smith. One, Untitled 2, is a shot of friends at a reunion in a backyard, munching on grilled corn on the cob. Another, Untitled 3, is a scene of colorful kayaks parked on the side of a river bank, waiting to be dropped back in the water. Today's fun also includes food, drinks and live music. 8 to 11 p.m. 1441 West Alabama. For information, call 713-529-4755 or visit hcponline.org. $15.
Fri., Aug. 27, 8-11 p.m., 2010
