Stand by Me

The 1986 film Stand by Me is based on Stephen King’s novella The Body, which chronicles the summer quest of four 12-year-old boys (played in the film by Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell) who find the corpse of a boy their age. Just like mythical heroes, the quartet must overcome a few obstacles — bullies, junkyard dogs and, who can forget, the leeches — before completing their journey. The film garnered Golden Globe, Academy, Writers Guild and Directors Guild awards and has proven to be a timeless summer classic. 8:30 p.m. Domy, 1709 Westheimer.
