Street Style: Ophelia Shops Around the World

I was strolling through Hermann Park last week when I spotted Ophelia -- and her adorable knee socks--by the reflecting pool. I'd like to start by thanking her for not having me arrested when I chased her down and asked to take her photo -- you're a good sport, Ophelia!

Ophelia, 29, is an English major at the University of St. Thomas. Originally from Mexico, she and her husband have lived in Houston for a year. They travel frequently, so a great deal of Ophelia's wardrobe is purchased in the countries that they visit. When I asked her where she likes to shop here in Houston, Ophelia answered, "A'gaci at the Galleria, and Marshalls, and I recently discovered Ross!"

Ophelia's shopping preferences and habits prove that you don't have to shop exclusive, high-end retail to get a polished result. In this economy, it's important to get the most bang for your buck, whether you are shopping for fashion basics or trendy pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe. And by purchasing items on her travels, Ophelia gets twice as much from each piece: A unique item for her wardrobe and a souvenir from her trip. Purchasing versatile separates is also a budget-friendly move: Each piece can be mixed-and-matched to create different outfits. I was charmed when Ophelia pulled her flower from her ponytail holder and pinned it to her blazer lapel for her closeup.

White button-down shirt: Purchased on a trip to Austria

One-button blazer: Purchased in Mexico

Pleated skirt: Purchased on a trip to Costa Rica

Flower accessory: Bought on a trip to Paris at Claire's Boutique. Ophelia said she had never heard of Claire's and was excited to learn we had them in the States.
