Summer Symphony Nights: A Star Spangled Salute

Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski batons the Houston Symphony into a patriotic frenzy for the annual ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights: A Star Spangled Salute 4th of July concert. The program includes rousing renditions of ''America the Beautiful,'' ''God Bless America'' and ''The Star Spangled Banner.'' American Idol finalists LaKisha Jones and Will Makar join the orchestra for All-American showstoppers, like ''And I Am Telling You'' from Dreamgirls, ''Home'' from The Wiz, John Denver’s “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” from…ah, John Denver. As always, the evening ends with the inspiring and very big bang of Tchaikovsky's famous ''1812 Overture,'' replete with booming cannons and pyrotechnics. Some 25,000 music and firework fans are expected to pour into Miller Outdoor Theatre for the show, so plan accordingly. BYO hotdogs and watermelon.

8:30 p.m. Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6000 Hermann Park Dr. For in-formation, call 281-373-3386 or visit houstonsymphony.org. Free.
