With the outdoor temperatures ranging between the 50s and the 70s, it's finally time to get outside and enjoy one of the best seasons the Bayou City has to offer. We've got a nature hike in Huntsville, a flow workout with the Hustletown Hoopers (they're bringing extra hoops), an outdoor screening of Grease, and a look at Houston's tallest Christmas tree over at Memorial City. And if you haven't checked out all the cool new murals painted during last month's HUE Mural Festival, then hop on your bike for a graffiti ride. Keep reading for ten of our favorite events that won't cost you more than $10 — and seven of them are free! Ignite Houston at Intersections 2016

Ignite Houston offers an evening of inspirational ideas. Eight speakers are on the lineup for five-minute, high-energy talks meant to enlighten the audience. The event is part of the Intersections 2016 conference, presented by Houston Tomorrow at UHD. Look here for a list of speakers and topics to be presented in fast-paced talks enhanced with slideshows. As your mind is filled with great ideas, fill your stomach with great local beer, food and ice cream from Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Oddball Eats and Fat Cat Creamery. Tickets are limited so in the theme of the event, purchase quickly.

HTXoutdoors Hiking - Huntsville State Park

If the weather forecaster's predictions are correct, Saturday should be a beautiful, partly cloudy, 70-something-degree day. It would be a shame not to get out and enjoy it. HTXoutdoors Hiking is planning a 6.5-mile hike on the Chinquapin Trail in Huntsville State Park. If you don't have a State Park pass, you'll have to pay a $5 entry fee. With the recent time change, you should be up early anyway, so lace up those hiking shoes, put some water and snacks in your backpack and get out and enjoy the great outdoors with fellow hiking enthusiasts.

Meet up with local flow artists on Friday for an evening of moving meditation. If you want to join in, bring your hoops, slacklines, yoga mats, silks or any other flow prop. It's a great way to unwind, get a little exercise and express yourself through playful movement. Can you come out to play?


MEGA-Fest at Your Library 2016

The mega-list of activities on tap for this mega-celebration is too mega to list here, but you can view the list on the Facebook event page. Highlights include A Wii™ gaming tournament, biotechnology exhibits, 3-D printer demonstrations, free poems on demand and animal adoptions. And it wouldn't be a festival without food, music and art. There really is something for everyone and the first 500 attendees get a special surprise. (No, we don't know what it is. It's a surprise.)

EastEndBikeRide: Houston Graffiti Ride #4
D&W Lounge
Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, free
Hop on your bike and let's explore some of the ever-growing public art popping up in our Houston neighborhoods. Gather at D&W Lounge at noon; the pack will roll out at 12:30 p.m. The graffiti ride has four scheduled stops, including Art Wall 2016, Meeting of Styles and HUE Fest. This will be a 20-miler, and we love the "social pace" of this ride. After the ride, enjoy Topo Chico Agua Mineral drinks and $2 cold Lone Stars back at D&W. DJ Abrahán Garza (and a Houston Press employee) will be there spinning tunes for the post-ride party.

Grand Opening of the Square at Memorial City Lights

This daylong and into the night event is packed, and we mean packed with activities. This is the grand opening of The Square at Memorial City, a 4,000-square-foot outdoor event green space. The afternoon will begin with a drumline battle, dance troupes and a host of theatrical performances. Guest performers include New York’s XPOGO Stunt Team, Houston’s Cirque La Vie, Bayou Brass Band, Lipan Urban West African Drummers and The Mockingbirds, who will also be at the after-party. Activities for the smaller set include a Theatre Under The Stars Into The Woods photo booth, character appearances by several famous superheroes, and costumed characters from Ice Skate USA’s Nutcracker on Ice. As the sun sets, Santa will arrive and flip the switch to illuminate Houston's tallest Christmas tree, plus more than a million lights throughout Memorial City. And if that's not enough, an after-party on The Square will have sweet treats and live music.

Second Saturday at Sawyer Yards

The artists of Sawyer Yards – as well as The Silos, Silver Street, Spring Street and Winter Street Studios –open their spaces to the public on the first Saturday of each month. Come see what the Washington Avenue Arts District has to offer as you meet the artists and enjoy a comprehensive collection of artwork. The Silos will host artist talks from 2 to 3 p.m.; meet inside the front doorway facing Sawyer. If you only get to one location this Saturday, you can catch the others on subsequent Saturdays in this monthly event.

Bank of America Screen on the Green: Grease Sing-a-Long

We all know and love the songs from Grease, and if we're all singing, maybe no one will notice or care if we're a little off-key. Fall in love with Sandy and Danny all over again against the downtown Houston skyline. If you haven't been to an event at Discovery Green yet, you should know that blankets, pets and picnics are welcome, but no glass containers or outside alcohol. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.


27th Annual Native American Pow Wow
Traders Village
9 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, $4 (for parking, event is free)
Traders Village will host the 27th Annual Texas Championship Pow Wow this weekend. Dozens of American tribes will be represented, celebrating their culture and heritage. Don't miss the dance competitions from 12:30 to 5 p.m. each day. Dancers of all ages will show off their colorful costumes and ceremonial dances. There will be Indian foods (the Native American fry bread alone is worth the visit), and authentic Native American arts and crafts. Get an up close look at the portable shelters in the tipi village.

2nd Annual ACAcon: A Cappella Music Festival

ACAcon is back for its second annual event and it promises to be bigger and better than the first. The festival will be filled with local a cappella choirs, including Rice University's Philharmonics and Nocturnals, the University of Houston's Rhapsody and Dhun A Cappella, and McGovern School of Medicine's A Cappella Choir. We'd throw in an aca-pun here, but two Pitch Perfect movies full of those is enough.
