Fans can join Carter for a screening of his latest release, A Gangland Love Story, during the event Texas Independent Film Network: An Evening with Greg Carter. Gangland was filmed in Houstons Fifth Ward and echoes Romeo and Juliet. (There are a couple of significant differences Gangland, set in the present, tells the story of Romero and Julia, from warring drug cartel families. And they drive around in an über-cool cherry-red convertible with bright white leather seats.)
Carter, winner of numerous awards, has some 17 documentaries and features to his credit. Former Houston Chronicle film critic Eric Harrison joins him onstage following the screening to discuss the Rice University film school grads career and the state of filmmaking in Texas. 5 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org/films. $6 to $7.
