We know we're the biggest state in the lower 48, but there seems to be an inordinate number of porn stars that come from the Lone Star State. Some were born here, some were born elsewhere and raised here, but most of them claim with pride their Texas roots, and a few were on hand at the AVN Awards this weekend.

For the uninitiated, Adult Video News is a trade mag that caters to the porn industry, and every year they hold an Oscars of debauchery, the AVN Awards. The awards ceremony features categories like Best All-Girl Sex Scene, Best Anal, Best Renting Title of the Year (last year's winner was Batman XXX: A Porn Parody), Best New Starlet and, believe it or not, Best Screenplay.

This year the ceremonies, which take place in Vegas, were hosted by comedian Dave Attell, Penthouse Pet Sunny Leone and former Charlie Sheen goddess Bree Olsen. Olsen, who won the AVN award for Best New Starlet in 2008, was born in Texas.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
