Ashley’s parents may have misunderstood the idea behind tough love in the Dennis Porsnuk play Curbs, part of the Country Playhouse New Play Reading Series. Instead of throwing the troubled teen out on the streets, her mom and dad join her ร at a distance, of course. Dad takes a job as a nighttime security guard so he can watch over her. Mom transforms herself into Dusty Rose, a street person, so as to keep an eye on her wayward daughter. Dad and Mom go through a series of creative and imaginative ruses in order to stay near their daughter, but Ashley’s found a new family of her own on the streets. Admittedly, Peacock, Tiki and Butter are fair-weather friends at best. They bounce from nice to nasty depending on their moods and needs. Can Ashley survive being part of their group? Or should she go home with Mom and Dad, and adjust to what passes for normal? 7 p.m. 12802 Queensbury Lane. For information, call 713-467-4497 or visit www.countryplayhouse.org. Free.
