The inspirational story of blind and mute Helen Keller and her teacher, Annie Sullivan, is chronicled in The Miracle Worker, presented by the University of St. Thomas Fine Arts and Drama Department. Pitied and alternately coddled and ignored by her family, Keller is locked in a silent world all her own, unable to communicate with anyone except through violence. Sullivan, determined to reach Keller, introduces the girl to sign language, but with no frame of reference for the concepts Sullivan presents, Keller may be beyond help.
