The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Over the Top

This year’s edition of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Over the Top is a “wacky and whimsical” three-ring circus where elephants dance, Chinese acrobats fly through the air and clowns fall over each other somewhere besides Washington, D.C. This year’s stars include the Torres Family (motorcyclists who perform inside a huge metal globe) and the Kassaev Cossacks (trick-performing horse riders). Over the Top also features lots of audience participation and Cirque du Soleil-style aerial performers. “The Greatest Show on Earth” has been around since 1884. See why today at 7:30 p.m. Through July 26. Reliant Stadium, One Reliant Park. For information and a full schedule, call 800-745-3000 or visit www.ringling.com. $10 to $100.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: July 15. Continues through July 26, 2009

With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Bob Ruggiero has been writing about music, books, visual arts and entertainment for the Houston Press since 1997, with an emphasis on classic rock. He used to have an incredible and luxurious mullet in college as well. He is the author of the band biography Slippin’ Out of Darkness: The Story of WAR.
