With Halloween around the corner, Houston is full of spooks and sweets, frights and fangs, and boos and booze. Keep track of all the pumpkin patches, costume parties, and tricks or treats with our 2018 Houston Halloween Guide:

Now through Sunday, November 4

Annual Halloween Haunted House at the National Museum of Funeral History
415 Barren Springs

Get in to the Halloween spirit all month long at this family-friendly haunted house, where you can explore the town of Dreadford Falls after a local nuclear power plant has melted down. The Annual Haunted House is rated PG-13 and is recommended for children ages 12 and up. Children under 12 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Admission to the haunted house if half off when you purchase admission to the museum ($5 for adults, $3 for kids eleven and under). Hours are Monday though Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Haunted Hollywood Trick or Treating at Putt-Putt FunHouse

806 East Nasa

Putt-Putt FunHouse is hosting a Haunted Hollywood Trick or Treating adventure every weekend in October (Fridays, 5 to 11 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sundays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.). Families can follow the walk of fame around the park to collect candy and fill out the trivia sheet correctly for the chance to win an Xbox One S. The event is free with the purchase of any all-day pass and free for kids under the age of four. For an added spooky treat, the robot-themed laser tag arena will be transformed into “Haunted Zombie Laser Tag.”

Kemah Boardwalk’s free Halloween event includes creepy crafts, trick-or-treating, costume contests, special performances and plenty of ghoulish fun on Freaky Fridays, Spooky Saturdays and Scary Sundays. Don’t miss the Little Boo Haunted Fun House and the Dungeon of Doom Haunted House. Note: Not all activities occur through Halloween day, see event schedule online.

Halloween Monster Mayhem at the Children’s Museum of Houston

Something spooky is on its way to the Children’s Museum of Houston, where a myriad of magic, mystery and monsters have maneuvered their way into the museum for three weeks of Halloween. Kids are welcome to partake in spine-tingling experiments, spirit-lifting activities and slime-filled fun as they meander way through the Museum in search of goblins, goodies and goo. The event culminates with the funky tunes at the spooktacular Halloween Monster Mash Bash on October 31 (open until 8 p.m.).

Hotel Galvez Ghost Tour and Dinner

In the spirit of the season, Hotel Galvez & Spa will host two ghost tour and dinners along with a stay in its "haunted" hotel. Staff will guide participants through the ghostly past of the hotel on a 90-minute tour, to be followed by three-course dinner in the Galvez Bar & Grill. Advance reservations are required. For reservations, call 409-515-2154 and request the Ghost Tour Dinner Overnight Package. Hotel check-in is at 4 p.m. and tour begins at 6 p.m.

Zoo Boo at The Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo is inviting all little ghouls and goblins to celebrate Halloween with activities that are fun for the entire family. Kids are encouraged to come dressed in their spookiest or prettiest Halloween costume and bring trick-or-treat bags for an afternoon of fun, from sweet candy corners and monster murals to pumpkin patches and a zookeeper’s adventure. All Zoo Boo activities are included with your paid zoo admission. Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Halloween Sensory Friendly Day at the Children’s Museum of Houston

The Children's Museum of Houston will host a special Sensory Friendly Day, an opportunity for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to explore the Museum. Doors will be closed to the public for the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be no music and sound-reducing headphones will be available. Pre-registration is required.

Addams Family screening at Market Square Park

Bring your blankets and to enjoy a free outdoor screening of Addams Family (PG-13) at Market Square Park. Get there early for our Saint Arnold Pumpkinator release party and a Wednesday costume contest, starting at 6 p.m.

ArBOOretum at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

The enchanting ArBOOretum features fun fall activities for all ages including live animals, pumpkin decorating and a pumpkin patch, train rides, face painting, food trucks and Houston’s only Trick-or-Treat Nature Trail. Costumes are encouraged. Cost is $15 online and $20 at the door (free for members and children under 3) and the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Houston Zombie Walk Halloween Festival

The 8th annual Houston Halloween Fest will feature fright-filled entertainment for the entire family, with live music, beer gardens, artist and business vendors, food trucks, a costume contest and a large kids zone with fun activities including a pumpkin patch, carnival games, spin art, trick-or-treating and a kids costume contest. Tickets are $10 for general admission and the even runs from 5 to 10 p.m.

Goosebumps screening at Discovery Green

Bring your blankets and lawn chairs for a showing of Goosebumps under the stars. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Night of Terror Film Festival at Moody Gardens

Prepare yourself for FEAR as Moody Gardens hosts a Night of Terror Film Festival, taking place over two weekends and featuring films from Beetlejuice and Nightmare on Elm Street to The Conjuring. The film festival will take place over two weekends and is strictly for audiences 18 and older. Admission is $25 and includes a complimentary beverage and popcorn. There will be additional beverages and concessions available for purchase throughout each night’s lineup of four films. The fest begins at 5 p.m. both nights.

Spook-tacular Halloween at Rainforest Cafe

Rainforest Cafe is hosting its annual Spook-tacular Halloween beginning at 5 p.m. Families can enjoy plenty of fang-tastic fun activities and treats including arts and crafts, games, raffles, prizes, Halloween cupcakes and a kids buffet.

Scream on the Green at Discovery Green

Guests will have a spooky good time at Houston’s annual costume contest and Halloween celebration, featuring prizes, a Halloween spectacle, screening of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (7:30 p.m.), performances by J-Dance Company, living statues, music, costume contest and candy. The family-friendly event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. and admission is free.

Haunted House at Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land

This family-friendly, space alien-themed haunted house is back to usher in the horrors of Halloween. Explore every creepy corner as you step into the darkened museum after hours. Cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members and the haunted house is open from 7 to 10 p.m.

Monster Mash Run at Karbach Brewery

Halloween costumes are encouraged at this family-friendly 5K, 10K and Kids K fun run ($20 to $50). All participants will receive a t-shirt and Karbach pint glass, and participants 21 and older will receive two beer tickets. Kids K participants will receive a t-shirt and a trick-or-treat bucket for the candy station at the halfway point on the kids run. The 5K/10K begins at 7:30 a.m., with the Kids Run at 9:15 a.m.

Tricks, Treats & T-Rex at Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land

Ghouls, goblins, pirates and princesses are invited to trick or treat and partake in a costume contest at the HMNS Sugar Land from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $3 for members, $12 for children and $15 for adults.

Halloween Zoovie Night at The Houston Zoo

The Zoo will stay open for a special Halloween Zoovie Night from 5 to 9 p.m., featuring evening activities and an outdoor showing of a spooky film favorite. Ghosts and goblins can vote between four spooky movies, and the winning movie will be announced Monday, October 15.

Montrose Pub Crawl

The cult favorite Montrose Pub Crawl is back for its 12th year, hitting ten bars and restaurants between Dunlavy and Montrose on Westheimer from 6 p.m. to midnight. This year’s lineup includes Brasil, Poison Girl, La Grange, Pistolero’s, Boondocks, Stone’s Throw, Catbirds, Present Company, Slick Willie’s, and El Real Tex-Mex, with an awesome after-party at The Burger Joint. As always, there will be no covers and no tickets, plus live DJs spinning all night long and prizes awarded for best outfits at each stop. A portion of the crawl’s drink sales will be donated to the Houston Area Women’s Center.

Spirits & Skeletons at Houston Museum of Natural Science

Ghosts and ghouls, monsters and mummies, and witches and werewolves are invited to shake their stuff with a stegosaurus, grab a drink with a skink and get spellbound by bewitching gems, all to live music and DJs from 8 p.m. to midnight. Food trucks will be on hand and the bars are cash only. Tickets are $25 for members and $50 for adults.

Ghostly Gardens at Moody Gardens

The annual Ghostly Gardens invites kids and families to participate in free trick-or-treating, creepy crafts, face-painting and other Halloween fun from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will also include a kid’s costume contest for children 12 years old and younger. Families with a member in costume will receive $5 admission to the Rainforest Pyramid, SpongeBob SubPants Adventure, Discovery Museum, MG 3D Theater, 4D Theater and Colonel Paddlewheel per person.

Pearland Trick or Treat Trail at Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium

Trick-or-treaters of all ages are invited to this free community-wide event at the Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium, where local businesses and organizations will line the “trail” to pass out candy and other goodies from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

BCO Haunted Hike at Memorial Park

Leave the bars to the zombies and join Bayou City Outdoors for a creepy haunted hike in the wooded trails and off-the-beaten paths of Memorial Park. The group will meet near the rugby/soccer field parking lot at 6:30 p.m. and host an after-party in around 8 p.m. Bring your favorite hike beverage (no glass) and $5 cash for pizza.

Ghost Tours at the 1859 Ashton Villa

Enjoy a rare tour through this 1859 building as guides tell stories of the early days of Galveston’s formation and exceptional life, and possible afterlife, of the home’s Miss Bettie Brown. Tours will take place at 7 and 8:15 p.m. and tickets are $30.

Catch a free outdoor screening of the horror classic beginning at 7 p.m. This is a non-ticketed event, including covered seating and open seating on the hill. The shows will go on rain or shine.

Midtown Park will be hosting a free Halloween celebration from 5:30 to 9:20 p.m., featuring music from Ill-Set Dee-J & A Sure Thing, a variety of food trucks, vendors, complimentary beer and wine sampling, face painting, dance performers, raffle prizes and a photo booth. Costumes are encouraged.

Sailor's Superstitions Tour at the Texas Seaport Museum

Take a spooktacular supernatural tour of the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa from 2 to 3 p.m. Tickets are $9 for youth (6-18), $12 for adults, and free for children five and under.

One of Houston's finest craft cocktail bars will have many treats (and some tricks) for you this Halloween, as it rings in the witches' New Year with two floors of cocktails created by world-renowned bartender Michael J. Neff, crystal palm readings by Crystal Kim and music by DJ Terrace. The mayhem runs from 8 p.m. to midnight. Downstairs is open to the public and there is no cover. VIP passes cost $99 and get you access to both upstairs and downstairs bars, each with its own cocktail menu and theme, as well as hosted cocktails, amuses-bouche, tarot readings, costume contest, gift bags and more.

Nationally recognized paranormal expert Dash Beardsley’s Original Ghost Tours provide a year-round spook, though there is something extra eerie about taking one during the month of October. Tours delve into the haunting past of the Galveston Island, with options including a tour of the historic Strand; the Restless Spirits Tour, which zones in on the Island’s stories and reports of paranormal activity; the Secret Society Cemetery Tour, which takes a haunting and historic journey through one of the area’s oldest cemeteries; and the Jack The Ripper Mystery Island Tour.

Texas’ only year-round haunted house features the quite insane Dr. Mayfield and twelve rooms of terror that will leave those daring enough to visit screaming. Admission is $10 per person ages 11 and up.

like the haunted sanitarium, medieval castle of doom, Texas chainsaw maze, and
zombie paintball shoot. Admission is $40. 

The Kingwood Asylum & Haunted House

Run by the mad Dr. Philip Blackman, this haunted hit features caves and
hallowed grounds outside and a deranged asylum inside. General admission is $33. 

Phobia

5250 South Sam Houston Parkway East

This year’s horror factory features five separate attractions and three linked
attractions for a total of six electrifying haunts. Dare to enter the Dawn of the
Machine, where the abyss of technology eclipses humanity; the mutant-packed
Genetic Nightmare; and the Mind Control, a mental hospital that has lost all
control. Don’t miss the three-part Exile–a journey through a deadly packing plant,
contaminated savage ground, and contagious dark lab. Tickets are $15 to $50.

Five blood-tingling attractions range from an old-school slaughterhouse and
zombie graveyard to a seriously creepy asylum maze packed with clowns. Tickets start at $19.
