Theatre Under the Stars, Houston's biggest and the oldest not for profit musical theater company in Houston, wants people around here to realize that it's more than just its shows at the Hobby Center and at Miller Outdoor Theatre -- it's musical theater education outreach and the Tommy Tune awards and more.
So, says Christian Brown, assistant director of marketing for TUTS, they decided to do something to really capture the area's attention -- namely a ticket giveaway entitled the "Golden Ticket" entitling the winner to a pair of tickets for an entire year's worth of performances including those at TUTS, TUTS Underground, and the Humphreys School of Musical Theatre.
To enter, go to tuts.com/goldenticket and fill out a simple form, Brown says. The contest ends at 2 p.m. on Monday June 30 and more than 1,000 submissions have been received already, Brown says.
But whoever wins doesn't just get to plunk his or her butt in a seat. TUTS will ask -- they can't make -- the winner to appear at TUTS events and talk to other people about the importance of what TUTS is doing and its role in the greater community, Brown says.
"A teacher in an HISD school may know about us for a very different reason," Brown says.
Asked the value of the tickets, Brown says that's difficult to determine since there isn't a price tag per se on VIP parties and backstage tours. But, he says, of the things they can count, the package is worth more than $4,000.
