Urban Fiction Book ClubUrban Fiction Book Club: ReShonda Tate Billingsley

Shhhh! Houston has a secret, and it's novelist ReShonda Tate Billingsley. The former journalist stepped away from the news and became embroiled in the lives of her steamy, sexy fictional characters, including Nina, a Texas Lottery winner who finds out that her divorce isn't quite final, and she just might have to split her winnings with her slimey ex-husband. There's also Jasmine, a high schooler in love for the first time, with C.J., a handsome football star. Everything's golden until (insert foreboding music here) C.J. finds himself caught in the crossfire of a gang war. It seems Billingsley stays on top of the bestseller list with her romantic, urban dramas. Two titles are currently being made into movies, and more screen versions are in the works. Discuss her books Can I Get a Witness? and The Devil Is a Lie during today's Urban Fiction Book Club. 7 p.m. Houston Public Library, 500 McKinney.
