Good News: Dale Petroskey Is Out of the Baseball Hall of Fame

I’m sure you’re asking: Who’s Dale Petroskey? Petroskey was a former Reagan functionary who became president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame nine years ago. And he’s out because, like most Republicans, he’s got a problem

I couldn’t care less about that. I think the guy should be fired for something that happened in 2003. The Hall of Fame was set to honor the movie Bull Durham with a special screening and an appearance by writer/director Ron Shelton and stars Robert Wuhl, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon. But out of the blue, Petroskey canceled the screening because of anti-war statements that had been made by Robbins and Sarandon; he feared their comments could “ultimately could put our troops in even more danger.”

I still can’t believe that a movie screening and celebration were cancelled because actors dared to speak their minds. Especially since there was nothing to indicate that Robbins and Sarandon were going to speak out on the war during the movie celebration.

So I’m feeling a little bit of karma here with Petroskey being fired because he’s a crook. The Hall of Fame is a place to celebrate baseball. It’s a shame that Petroskey could only see it as a place to further his political views.

Good riddance, Dale. And don’t let the door hit you on the way out. – John Royal
