Corpse Reviver #2 at Mockingbird Bistro

In addition to the Sazarac and the Cosmopolitan, these days I've also been enjoying the "Corpse Reviver," specifically the "Corpse Reviver #2" at Mockingbird Bistro. I'm not sure what this current preference says about the general state of my existence. I don't particularly feel dead to the world except during that final hour of sleep just before my alarm rings in the morning.

The Corpse Reviver #2 brings together gin, lillet blanc, cointreau, lemon juice, and a splash of absinthe. Pearl-white in color, this elixir of life is filled with floating flecks of fruit fiber that assemble into a tornado when you swirl your glass. At the bottom of Mockingbird's Corpse Reviver is a blood-red cherry: Eat it just after your penultimate sip to ensure the berry has fully absorbed some of the drink.

Although the Corpse Reviver #2 tastes sweet and innocent, this sultry lemon cocktail has a unique way of simultaneously heightening every visceral sensation and dulling every muscle in your body so that descending from your bar stool suddenly becomes difficult. This can be embarrassing when it comes time to transition into Mockingbird's dining room to enjoy a lovely dinner of sweetbreads and grouper.

Gin hasn't traditionally been my liquor of choice, but this drink is causing me to question all my previous beliefs, including that one about not regularly keeping absinthe in the house.
