If you have been a vegetarian for a while, you probably won't need this article. If, however, you have gone veg for lent, or even as a New Year's resolution, this may help keep you on track in the meat-ville that is the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

We understand that you don't always want to eat a salad wherever you go, so we've left the obvious out. Most of these choices are lacto-ovo veggie, not vegan, but if you are a vegan, you are probably going to be boycotting the rodeo anyway.

Veggie Burgers: If you can find them, they are great alternatives to a burger. If you can't find anything at the stalls and are still dying for a burger, your friendly concession person can make you a bun filled with fresh veggies.

Corn (Elote): The cheesy, roasted corn on the cob is a killer way to skip the meat.

Funnel Cake: It's vegetarian - not great for you, but it still passes. Not vegan-friendly due to eggs and milk.

Baked Potatoes: They may be harder to find than some other foods at the rodeo, but it's easy to fill up on butter and starch.

Ranch Beans: There are many different recipes of ranch beans. If you want to go this route, just ask the folks at the concessions if there is meat in it.

Nachos: Processed cheese food, jalapeños, and slightly stale chips are quite tasty while watching bull roping.

French Fries: Rodeo fries are curly and come in awesome big servings.

Fried Zucchini / Fried Pickles: These normally healthy, watery veggies are turned into a decadent carnival food. However, both veggie!

Pizza on a Stick: This cheesy stick has pepperoni-free version in some places. Mmmm...

Veggie Tacos: Bean tacos are awesome (as well as bean burritos). Skip the fried crap and get yourself a tortilla full of beany goodness.
