Did you know that you should always leave eggs in their original container and never, ever store them on the door of your refrigerator? Or that salted butter lasts longer than unsalted? (Salt is a preservative, after all.)
You can even leave butter out on your counter quite safely for days at a time, to make sure it's always in a lovely, spreadable condition. To keep it from going rancid, simply keep the surface covered -- use a butter bell or even a simple butter dish -- to reduce its exposure to air. This way, the butter will stay good for roughly a week.
