If places like the Flying Saucer and BRC Gastropub didn't think they had any real competition before, things are about to change. Anvil's Bobby Heugel and his partner, beer man extraordinaire Kevin Floyd, are opening a beer bar together.

For many months now, Floyd has been giving Beer 101 classes at Anvil Bar & Refuge to the thirsty masses, as well as hosting the occasional beer dinner. And many expected that it was only a matter of time before Floyd took those skills -- and his propensity for compiling excellent beer lists -- on the road.

Is this full-fledged beer bar the shake-up that Houston needs to wholly embrace beer as a craft and an art form, much as it's already embraced wine and cocktails? We can only hope.
