City health inspectors finished the year on a somewhat light note, slapping a few moderate offenders and a clump of lesser foes.
At Big A Food Mart (903 El Dorado Blvd.), a December 22 routine inspection found 13 violations, including plumbing and paperwork troubles and some equipment that was not cleaned often enough to keep it free of grime. There also was no way to measure whether food was being stored at safe temperatures.
McDonald's haters can rejoice that the chain's 2727 Bay Area Blvd. location racked up eight violations in a December 22 inspection. In addition to paperwork troubles, inspectors found some employees not minimizing bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods, and some equipment that had not been designed or constructed properly.
A December 22 visit to Antone's (8057 Kirby) resulted in seven citations, including that some equipment and utensils were not handled properly to prevent contamination, that there was no way to measure whether food was being stored at safe temperatures, and that raw food had been removed from its original containers and was being stored in uncovered containers.
Finally, Baytown Seafood (9205 S. Main) was slapped with seven violations in a December 23 visit that found dirty floors, plumbing problems, paperwork errors, and dirty or smelly toilets. Also, effective measures intended to keep out roaches and rodents were not being used.
