It's that time of year again, folks.
Across the country, Christmas trees are going up, lights are being hung and cookies are being baked. And here in Texas, we're enjoying one of our favorite holiday traditions: tamaladas!
For many of us here in Houston, December isn't December without tamaladas, or tamale-making parties, followed by a delicious feast. Of course, you could let someone else do the cooking for you and chow down on delicious tamales at the Houston Press's annual Tequila and Tamales fiesta!
Next Tuesday, December 10, join four of the best Tex-Mex restaurants in town at Pearl Bar for delicious tamales paired with tequila drinks to get in the holiday spirit.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. four restaurants will be slinging tamales and boozy beverages to the first 150 people in the door, who will then get to vote on their favorite food and drink. There will be two winners--one for tequila and one for tamales.
This year, the folks behind El Gran Malo are busy opening their new venture, El Big Bad, but La Mexicana is back again to defend its title against Irma's Restaurant, Texas Tamale Company and Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, all of whom are masters at the classic Tex-Mex dish.
Tequila will be provided by local brand Agavales Tequila, and restaurants will be tasked with coming up with a unique drink to pair with their food using the special tequila.
If you're not one of the first 150 through the door, you won't be able to sample the offerings, but you can still hang out and enjoy a mariachi band and drink specials from Pearl Bar (most likely tequila as well). There's no official RSVP, but we encourage you to note your attendance on the event's Facebook page so we get an idea of how many to expect. Please keep in mind, the event is 21 and over only.
Get a head start this year on your holiday planning by taste testing several authentic tamales all in one convenient (and boozy) location. Hope to see you there!
