Jesse Dayton is learning the joys of Facebook. The ex-Houston honky-tonker and Rob Zombie rockabilly muse, who plays the Armadillo Palace February 26 and Conroe's Texas Independence Day Festival March 5, took to YouTube Tuesday to explain why he had to start a new fan page.
Not only had his personal page reached its limit of 5,000 friends, Dayton explains, his account had been Phished and "I was selling surfboards and blenders and underage kids from Thailand, for all I know." He was also becoming more and more put out with some messages from some unruly so-called "fans" demanding that he add them.
Then he read a few, and it became rather obvious why he hadn't:
- "I saw three shows with you and Rob Zombie. Sure, it turned me on to country music, but then again, who cares about your faggy little country band? I just want to see you and Mistress Clegg rock! Been waiting to be added for weeks and weeks. What's the deelio?"
- "Hi, I started watching you years ago with the Road Kings. Raisin' Cain was when I started being a serious Hard Charger, as you call us. So when are you going to stop being a douchebag and add me?"
- "My wife sent you a friend request. She will not shut the fuck up about you not adding her. Please do me a favor and add her so I don't have to hear about what a big head you've got since you started making movies. p.s. No offense, but I could give two shits about you."
Dayton did note that about 90 percent of the messages he received were very nice and free of derogatory language. But with fans like that...
