- Rocks Off is trying to get to the bottom of who is Twittering as elderly, dreadlocked Houston bluesman Little Joe Washington (@LittleJoeWash). The tweets certainly sound like Little Joe - "Little Joe got a couple tricks up his sleeve," "and age aint nuthin but a number, baby. u feel that?" - but we ran into him outside the Continental Club Friday night and he had no idea what we were talking about. If you know who the Little Joe impostor is, let us know.
- While Bring Back the Guns is on indefinite hiatus, the band's Matt Brownlie is starting a monthly series of happy-hour shows at Rudyard's called the Houston Underground Social Club (H.U.S.H.). "I know I'm far from the only old geezer in town who would love to catch up on local music without having to feel like hell the next day," he says. The shows, which begin Thursday, August 6 (performers TBD), will start at 5:30 p.m. the first Thursday of every month, with drink specials and a taco bar. The $5 suggested donation will be given to a different local charity each time, starting with Planned Parenthood of Texas.
