Welcome back to Turning the Screw, Rocks Off's weekly rap post. It probably won't rhyme, at least most of the time. E-mail tips to email@example.com. Thanks, homies.
Single of the Week: "Sippin'," Kyle Hubbard feat. Roosk and DZA
Wire To Wire
"Get Out the Way"
We enjoy Bun B and Cory Mo. Statik Selektah, on the other hand, we don't like. Thus, this song is 66 percent good. Music criticism backed by mathematics is indefensible.
Dr. Dre is reportedly displeased with the 50 Cent/R. Kelly track "It Could Have Been You" (above) being leaked early. He should probably be more displeased with it being so crappy.
The soundtrack for Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious is out tomorrow. We're going to see this movie even though we know how terrible it's going to be. We're smart like that.
Lil Wayne, not to be outdone by the obscurity of Kanye's 808's, is recording a rock album. Let us be the first to praise its garbageness.
Queen Pen, former victim of domestic abuse, is holding a press conference to rally against it.
40 Glocc, whom you may remember from allegedly snatching Tyga's chain, has a new mixtape available via his Web site. We plan on listening to it, but only because he knocked off Scarface's tape-over-the-mouth thing from "G-Code" (above).
Will the Inaugural Ball be a little too bland for you? Then might we suggest the Hip Hop Inaugural Ball? Ginuwine is going to be there, so we assume it's going to be held in 2002 - you know, back when Ginuwine was relevant.
Speaking of, Cypress Hill's B-Real has a new album coming out.
Soulja Boy has a cartoon now. Naturally, it's of the highest quality. You can expect the storm of locusts any day now.
Death Row Records' catalogue will be auctioned off next week. Surely Kurupt's Against the Grain will fetch a healthy sum.
Three CDs out this week you otherwise never would have heard of (but are available on amazon.com nonetheless):
Notorious B.I.G., Notorious soundtrack
Pete Rock, Surviving Elements
Trae, I Am Houston (Not technically released Tuesday, but we've just downloaded it. You should too.) - Shea Serrano
