Houston Fringe Festival

BooTown opens its Houston Fringe Festival with abusive employees and evangelical elementary students. Among the stagings, Six of One Productions presents Abby Koenig's Bring Your Jesus to Class Day, in which a fourth grader literally introduces his classmates to his savior, and Crystal Jackson presents Flagellating the Boss, in which disgruntled workers take turns boppin' their boss on the head. The festival features four more days of performing and visual arts, including films from 48 Hour Film Project, MaxXanDaux and Brazosport Laser Panthers, as well as theatrical performances by Doorman Actors Lab, Pandora Theatre and Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company. BooTown is also shaking things up for 2010. "This year we're incorporating dance," says BooTown's Emily Hynds, explaining that HFF will add five dance companies, including North Carolina's Code F.A.D. Company and San Antonio's China Cat Productions. Both will perform original pieces - Fashion Briefs and Amazonia, respectively. Various times. Through May 23. Various locations.
