James Dixon, the well-known minister of Houston's Community of Faith church, has been charged with hitting his wife.

The arrest was first reported by Fox's Isiah Carey; Dixon made an appearance in court this morning and is free on bond.

George Flynn, spokesman of the Harris County DA's office, gives Hair Balls more details:

According to the arresting officers, he and his wife Tanisha had been separated, and he came to drop their children off after a visitation and then declined her request to leave, so he pushed her and kind of grappled with her.

Flynn says the actual charge says Dixon "picked complainant up with his hands and threw her to the ground."

The alleged incident happened Monday, according to police reports, at the couple's home in Spring. Dixon has been charged with a misdemeanor count of assault on a family member.

We've left a message for Dixon; we'll let you know if he responds.

Community of Faith is on the north side of town, on Pinemont. According to the church's website, Dixon, 47, has been pastor there since 1981. He is a grandson of a former pastor of the church.
