The Houston Chronicle sure has itself a lot of blogs. Mostly, they’re nothing you’d click on. One of the good ones, though – for those of a certain bent – is Bayou City History by J.R. Gonzales.

Gonzales makes terrific use of the photo files of the Chronicle, the late Post and the public library to offer up a view of Houston that most current residents couldn’t imagine. We especially like this posting . It’s just two pictures, a now-and-then (“then” being 1956) comparison of the intersection of Lyons and Jensen. But it says volumes about the Fifth Ward, and how our city has changed. -- Rich Connelly
