We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.
So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.
This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.
Yesterday we wrote about the 30 Hour Famine, a consciousness-raising exercise that seemed pretty silly.
One of our readers, who claimed experience with the program, agreed.
Yep. Real. I work with students at a church, I just talked to the 30 Hour Famine people yesterday letting them know that we would NOT be participating in this.
I mean really. Making a game out of other people starving? If people took the time and energy they put into creating an "unforgettable famine(!)" into, I dunno, getting together and making sandwiches and giving them to the homeless, maybe I would consider participating.
But I think my favorite part is that they reward students with gifts for making it through the fast. I would think the fact that they GET TO EAT REGULARLY when they're done is quite enough of a reward.
