We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.

So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.

This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.

We wrote of the discovery of dozens of dogs found tortured or killed in Crosby, and how the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had done little about it.

One reader said that was typical for the HSPCA.

tearcollector wrote:

The HSPCA/HHS truly are all about cash and publicity. They immediately euthanize Pit Bulls or any dog that's a bully breed. Hell, they euthanize healthy dogs which I did see when I almost volunteered. Same thing if an animal requires veterinary care apart from vaccines. I did plenty of rescuing and both places aren't too helpful when it comes to working with rescue organizations. I will not donate to either place, but instead donate to the local rescues.

I hope the heartless person(s) who committed these atrocious acts are turned in. I wish the punishment fit the crime. Until the cruelty laws are made stiffer, the punishment is a joke. I will pass the information around and see what can be done to help these poor dogs.

Thank you for bringing attention to this matter. It's nice to know someone cares.
