Being drunk and not wearing a seatbelt is generally not a good idea while driving.

And a Houston man faces intoxication manslaughter charges after he crashed his car on the West Loop North early Saturday, killing his passenger.

Louis M. Morones, Jr., 51, was driving southbound on the service road in the 900 block of the Loop about 12:45 a.m. when he left his lane and his Nissan Frontier "went off the roadway and struck a parking lot concrete base," police said.

His passenger, a 47-year-old male, was killed. Morones was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Neither he nor his victim were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.
