The Buffalo Bayou Partnership is ready to present the next phase of plans for improvement plans along the waterway, plans that include pedestrian bridges and pavilions.

Trudi Smith of the organization tells Hair Balls the latest series of architect's renderings is based on suggestions from last year's series of public hearings and are not intended to be final.

We're getting closer to the final design stages, but there are still intended to be preliminary drawings," she says.

The renovations include $5 million in flood-control work and a proposed $50 million in park construction.

Much of the work will be financed through private donations.

Buffalo Bayou Partnership's privately-funded work will include natural landscaping, footpaths, (in addition to hike and bike trails), trail lighting, special destinations, water features, pedestrian bridges, public art and amenities.

As a first step in the overall enhancements described above, Buffalo Bayou Partnership is currently upgrading five Buffalo Bayou Sandy Reed Memorial Trail segments prior to major reconstruction of the entire trail in fall 2011. The overall trail reconstruction project is being overseen by the City of Houston and Texas Department of Transportation. The comprehensive park enhancements are slated for completion in mid-2015.

Feel free to put in your two cents on the plan at these two meetings:
