A common-law marriage gone wrong resulted in the ex-husband storming into a trailer on the far southwest side and blasting away at his former wife's father and mother, killing one and and injuring the other, police say.
Guillermo Pineda Valdez, 63, died in the incident in the 4700 block of Anderson about 12:15 a.m. Saturday. His wife, Maria G. Valdez, 55, has been hospitalized.
Police say they are searching for Francisco Arzate, 35, who has been charged with murder.
Police say he and the Valdezes' daughter had had a ten-year common-law marriage with five kids, but had recently broken up.

"On Friday, Arzate called his ex-wife and told her he was suffering so he would make her suffer, too," police say. "Arzate, believing his ex-wife was seeing another man, kicked open the front door to the Valdezes' trailer and shouted that he was going to kill everybody."
When Guillermo Valdez came out from his bedroom to investigate, Arzate shot him, police said. "Once Mr. Valdez went down, Arzate then continued firing shots at Valdez's wife, Maria, who was struck multiple times, but so far has managed to survive her wounds."
Police said Arzate, who also goes by the name of Francisco Abalos, has "a history of violence" with his ex-wife.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of suspect Francisco Arzate is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
