Scout's Honor Rescue, the group that took in the pit bulls from the SPCA after Hurricane Ike, is launching a new adoption location in the Heights and wants everyone to come out to see Dexter -- one of the few pits the SPCA has ever allowed to live -- and all the other breeds up for fostering or adoption.
The adoption gala will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 7 at 1230 Heights Boulevard between 12th and 13th streets. You can get a hot dog or burger, adopt a cat or dog, or just donate to the cause. Besides the adoptions there will be raffle baskets, veggie dogs and burgers and 100 percent of the proceeds go to help the animals, according to spokeswoman Cindy Perini.
If you want more of an advance peek at who'll be there from the animal kingdom, go to www.scoutshonor.petfinder.com and if you see one you really like, don't wait for February 7, e-mail them now at email@example.com.

This dog is not, repeat not, trying to bring you messages from Hell through his eyes. Keep telling yourself that, at any rate.
Remember when dens used to have burled wood paneling, and that was considered cool? This dog thinks those dens still are cool.
Close-cropped means less shedding. We hope.
