Give a shout out to Marvin Zindler, who went on the air at KTRK-TV last night to tell viewers that he’s been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Zindler, who can be loud and cantankerous, was at his impressive best during the announcement. Shunning tears, he gave a feisty little speech in which he said that no one should feel sorry for him since he’s almost 86 and has lived longer than most people.
It’s a lousy thing to happen to anyone, but Zindler has pledged to keep working during chemo treatments and continue his restaurant reports. And in case you’ve forgotten all his exploits – from shutting down the Chicken Ranch in La Grange (which ultimately led to further fame in the Broadway and film versions of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas) to multiple plastic surgeries to slime in the ice machine – a quick Google check should refresh your memory of the man with his own Wikipedia entry. – Margaret Downing
