It took a while, but the Houston school district has apparently found someone to fill the shows of departed media spokesman

Terry Abbott

.

The bad news is the new guy comes from Clear Channel, which is the hated monster of independent-minded radio fans everywhere. The good news is he comes from Clear Channel's billboard division, which as far as we know is not hated by independent-minded billboard fans everywhere.

Lee Vela is the name, and he will take over an expanded role, according to a memo from superintendent Abe Saavedra to the board that the Houston Chronicle got its hands on.

HISD spokesman Norm Uhl confirms it to Hair Balls: "Yep, he's the guy," he says.

The memo went out last week, the Chron reported. No official announcement was made until the story leaked.

Nice beginning for someone who will no doubt come on board talking about being open and transparent and zzzzzzzzz........
