Only four days until the day a lot of people consider the best day of the year for local music, the Press' annual showcase of artists nominated for Houston Press Music Awards. First of all, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the 60 performers (and five DJs, for you late-night types) in this week's showcase supplement, a 24-page pullout that begins after page 48 in this week's print edition (out today) and is online here.
Now, here's what else you need to know: The music begins at 4 p.m. at the following clubs: Butterfly High (902 Capitol), Dean's Credit Clothing (316 Main), Flying Saucer (705 Main), Hard Rock Cafe (502 Texas, in Bayou Place), Havana Latin Grill and Bar (818 Travis), Live Sports Cafe (407 Main), Notsuoh (314 Main), The Real Sammie's (711 Franklin), Rocbar (530 Texas, in Bayou Place) and Venue (723 Main). The DJs will spin at Mosaic (530 Texas, in Bayou Place).
Wristbands good for entry to all ten clubs are available now for $10 (or $15 for two) at Cactus Music (2110 Portsmouth) and online here. And don't forget to vote in this year's music poll; ballots are on page 62 of this week's Press and online here.

Of course Rocks Off be all over the showcase like a cheap suit, including live blogging from the VIP party at the Rice Lofts and a complete wrap-up Monday morning. Stay tuned the rest of the week for additional preview coverage, including videos and MP3s of the nominees, and more good stuff. - Chris Gray
