Welcome to Turning the Screw, Rocks Off's weekly rap/hip-hop post. From here on out, we'll attempt to bring you new music, news and other tidbits related (at least somewhat) to rap and hip-hop. E-mail tips to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks, homies.
(Note: Since this is the “rap/hip-hop post,” from heretofore, all commenters will be expected to sign off with a snazzy rap phrase, like “See you later, alligator,” or “Raise the roof.” Thank you.)
Single of the Week: “Nuthin 2 A Boss,” Trae tha Truth feat. Slim Thug
Wire to Wire:
Of course - of course - we have to start out with Trae getting his own day named after him. Naturally, on Trae Day, July 22nd, you will be expected to swing your slab and lean to the left.
Miami’s (former) rap queen Trina and her NBA boyfriend Kenyon Martin were in a car crash. We assume they were on their way to speak at either the “Past Their Prime” Festival or the “Perpetually Overrated” Conference.
Murs and 9th Wonder – two guys you don’t know about now but eventually will - are giving away their latest LP for free right here. No catches or anything.
Former 2 Live Crew bad ass Luke Campbell got married. God, what we would have done to go to that wedding. We heard there was an ice sculpture for each of the steps in 2LC’s “One and One,” and that the bride came down the aisle to “Bust A Nut.” We’re sure it was a beautiful service.
Here’s why we love DMX: In one news clip, we found out X pled “not guilty” to identity theft and felony theft, plugged both his upcoming rap album and an upcoming gospel album, and is due back in court for drug possession and cruelty to animals. Busy man.
Nas is not a fan of FOX news, and neither are 620,000 of his friends.
Sadly, K-Swift passed away.
Rick Ross exposed as the biggest correctional officer rap has seen thus far.
And then this happened. (If you don’t look at anything else from Wire to Wire, look at this one.)
Yeah, Kanye West can be pretty douchey sometimes, but this is kinda dope. (Ten bucks says he show up late.)
Hey, you, yeah you, with the gun… move. Hey, you, with the sagging pants, you’re under arrest. (This is old, but whatever, the graphic is dope.)
