Though Houston is one of the most economical big cities in which to eat out these days, there are still some tricks to the dessert trade to make dining out a little cheaper — and sweeter. Here are eight dessert deals to help discount your sugar habit:
Half-Price Cake at Empire Café: Every Monday, regulars flock to this Montrose staple for a towering slice of any of the restaurant's giant layer cakes for just half the price of the regular $6.95 price tag.
$10 Yesterday’s Treats at Red Dessert Dive: Every morning, Red Dessert Dive sets out boxes of any treats (made fresh daily) that weren’t sold out the day before. For just $10, you’ll get a mystery box with a variety of whatever is leftover: It could be some scones, muffins, cookies, slices of cake — the possibilities are excitingly mysterious. The early bird gets the worm — these often sell out fast!
Three Cookies for $3 at Fluff Bake Bar: Whenever this midtown dessert haven doesn’t sell out of its cookies, it packages up and sells them the next day in packs of three for just $3, a great deal considering these discounted cookies typically start at $1.95 each.
“Oops” Slices at The Chocolate Bar: The towering chocolate-on-chocolate slices at The Chocolate Bar are definitely hefty and rich enough to deserve their $9.99 price tag, but should you be in the mood for a less committed version of one of the rich chocolate cakes, The Chocolate Bar often has “Oops” slices (in other words, pieces that were cut imperfectly) lined up along the counter for just $6.99.

Macaron Mondays at Tout Suite: Every Monday, stock up on macarons: buy three and get one free at the trendy, sweets-filled coffee shop. But that’s not all — Tout Suite also has Truffle Tuesdays (any two cake balls for $2), Thirsty Thursdays (milk, green or black tea with tapioca for $3). Plus the shop also occasionally gives away a free treat for occasions such as National Gluten Free Day or National Espresso Day, and both Tout Suite and Sweet, Tout Suite’s sister shop, also offer $1 macarons for the occasional holiday — like the Facebook page or follow the Instagram to get updates.
BOGO Cupcakes at Sprinkles: Every once in awhile, Sprinkles will post a promotion for a buy one get one free cupcake deal on the shop's Facebook page for a limited number of customers — once in a blue moon, the deal will simply be for a free cupcake. All you have to do is walk in, speak the whisper word of the day to the cashier and walk out with your discounted cupcake!
50 Percent Off Baked Goods at Ahh, Coffee: From 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. (closing time) at the new Eado coffee spot, all baked goods are fair game for the 50 percent deal.
Free Dessert at Osaka: With every entrée ordered, each patron also receives a free appetizer and dessert, generally an ice cream and banana tempura combination.
